2017 Harvey & Laura Alpert Scholarship

Paige Kelly

Hello, my name is Paige Kelly. I am an 18 year old female from Monmouth County who just began my college education at the University of Delaware. If I were to describe myself in three words they would be compassionate, ambitious, and charismatic. Compassionate because throughout my life’s journey I have learnt the importance of every decision I make, no matter how minuscule. In this aspect as well as through my love of volunteer work, giving back means everything to me, and I try to sew it into everything I create. Ambitious in that if I do not participate in my work to the best of my ability, I become frustrated with myself. It is because of this that I am a perfectionist. Though stressful at times, I would not want to be any other way. Lastly, I am charismatic due to the fact I love to build others up and make their day better, even if mine is not great. I am more of a listener than a talker, and I feel most comfortable when I am giving others insight rather than vice versa. I love to show others how great they are, because in my opinion, self-love is the most important trait to possess. Overall I am a very optimistic and reflective young adult who tries to live my life to the best of my ability.

I carry around my notebook to write any ideas that I may run across while outdoors.  I realize that it’s difficult to make a living as a writer because I don’t know if my stories will ever get published.  I hope that they do.  So, as a fall back, I will minor in computer programming. This way, I will make a decent living while trying to accomplish my dream to be a published writer.

My parents are hard working people, but they were never able to save for college because they live paycheck by paycheck.  They can’t afford my college tuition and other college associated expenses, so when I received your email about me receiving the scholarship money my parents and I were overjoyed with the news. This will definitely help my family and mostly myself to only focus on my education.  Without your scholarship, I would have had to find a part time job to help with the expenses.
