 2015 Alphonse Joseph Scholarship
Allison Linzing

My name is Allie Linzing. I am currently a sophomore at the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana. I am majoring in special education here at UIUC. My hopes are to one day be able to impact as many lives as I can in a positive way by becoming a special education teacher. I am involved in many clubs, including a social sorority Alpha Epsilon Phi, a teaching organization called Epsilon Delta, as well as spending my free time volunteering at local elementary schools. The Alphonse Joesph Scholarship will go towards finding my education which will allow me to experience many new things.

Bruce Barringer

Bruce Barringer

Bruce Barringer is a sales manager who has been managing and developing sales professionals for 4 years and has worked as a sales professional since his honorable service in the United States Army ended in 2005.  Hes earned a Bachelor of Science from the State University of New York College at Brockport in 2005 and is undertaking his Master of Business Administration at the University at Albany.   Bruce has received multiple sales awards including Rookie of the Year and Presidents Club with various Fortune 500 companies.  When Bruce isn’t at work or school you can find him actively training for triathlons and enjoying the outdoors.

Darielle Robinson

Darielle is a sophomore at the University of Michigan- Dearborn where she is majoring in Elementary Education with a focus in Mathematics. She graduated in 2014 from Bloomfield Hills High School. During her freshman year at the University of Michigan- Dearborn Darielle was on the Dean’s list while working at the Early Childhood Education Center, Dearborn and a work study at Mercy Education Project for a total of 21 hours a week. Darielle’s dream is to open her own school one day, which will help kids who often fall through the cracks to succeed. She is very grateful for this scholarship and thanks all those who had a part in making this possible.

My name is Emma Kautz and I am a rising junior studying Finance and International Business at Loyola University Chicago. As a world traveler and a young businesswoman, I know the importance of both money and education. I recently studied abroad in Italy and am currently an Orientation Leader at Loyola to help welcome incoming freshmen. I am so thankful for the opportunities Loyola has given me and even more thankful that the John Louis Foundation has chosen to support me on my journey. I hope to continue serving my college and the surrounding communities while also expanding my business experiences in the coming year.

My name is Grace Gimesky and I am a 5th year senior at Central Michigan University. As I have three semesters to go, I am looking forward to diving into my field experience classes as I begin to prepare to have my own classroom in the near future! I am energized to invest in my students and to be a vehicle to push them to realize their value and ability to do amazing things in this world. In my spare time, I enjoying running, and will be coaching a middle school cross country team this fall! I am also looking forward to site leading a service trip of 12 college students to serve a non-profit organization over our winter break in January 2016! I am blessed to have this opportunity to complete a college degree. I am deeply thankful to Harvey Alpert and the IFSA for their continued support!

Jacob Griffith

My name is Jacob Griffith, and I am a sophomore at Penn State University, University Park Campus. I will be majoring in Materials Science and Engineering, and minoring in Mathematics. I participate in many clubs at Penn State, including Club Cross Country and a Penn State Dance Marathon Organization. I am from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and I was the valedictorian of Ambridge High School. I plan on working for Westinghouse Nuclear Power in the future.

My name is Jorge Munoz and I have been live in the United States, New York since 2004. I am a naturalized American citizen since 2010. I came from Ecuador eleven years ago. I am 32 years old and  I live with my wife and my daughter in Valley Stream, NY. I have been working as a production supervisor in JFK Flying Food Group for one year and four months. My plant is to finish my academic education to give a better future to my family and myself.  I will like to thank for the selection as 2015 recipient for IFSA Foundation award. Katie Renard

Hello, my name is Katie Renard. I just graduated form Park High School in Cottage Grove, MN. I will be attending Winona State University this fall in pursuit of a nursing major. Although nobody in my immediate family is a nurse, I grew up being around the medical field. Between being a young kid taking care of her dads burnt leg to dealing with family members having cancer, I have grown a passion and love for taking care of others when they are sick or hurt. I have always wanted to work with kids and I hope after I become a RN I can go back to school and specialize in pediatrics.  I grew up playing sports and it has taught me some very valuable lessons. I am involved in my local church, Crossroads, and have gone on a few mission trips, which include Mexico and Minneapolis.

My name is Kelly Bucher, and I will be a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin - Madison in the Fall.  I am double majoring in Dietetics and Spanish.  In the future, I plan to be a Dietician who specializes with helping men and women recover from eating disorders. I will use my Spanish abilities to reach out to a wider range of men and women.  I want to thank Nick Bregman for his wonderful donation.  Without him, I would not have received the 2015 WESSCO International Scholarship.  I will use this scholarship to help pay for my classes and books. Meryl Goeke

Meryl Goeke recently graduated from St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland. She will attend Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. In the next four years she plans to study Global Development and Spanish. Her goal is to learn more about how she can better the world. She was born in London, England and then moved to Holland and Spain before living in the United States. This has created her love of travel and her ease in foreign cultures. She has traveled extensively with her family and plans to continue this in her undergraduate years.

Michael Kennedy

Michael Kennedy is a 19 year old student from Chicago, Illinois. He is attending Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio as a Posse Scholar and intends to major in Comparative American Studies. Over the years, he has been proud to be involved in many volunteer experiences, ranging from community cleaning to volunteering at the 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. During the summer, he has gained experience in the hospitality field interacting with people from around the world while working at the Willis Tower Skydeck. It is his hope that he can combine his passion in the social sciences and love for working with people as an educator.

My name is Michell Chaparro, I am currently 18 years old and I am an early grad from Skyline High School in Longmont, Colorado. I live with both of my parents and 4 other siblings. I am bilingual and during my high school years I volunteered as a translator in my own school and in schools around me as well. I have volunteered at the Boulder Bolder and I have babysat for quite a while. With all of this, I learned to communicate with the people around me and I'm eager to try new things. Ever since I was little my dream has been to become a nurse and he able to help people all around me. I plan on going to Front Range to pursue my dream and I wouldn't have been able to do that without the help of the IFSA community. Thank you for believing in me.

Nicholas Melvin

Hello, my name is Nicholas Melvin and I'm in my fourth of five years at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. I'm a mechanical engineering major with aspirations to work in the aerospace industry. I currently work on the Blackhawk program at Sikorsky Aircraft as a propulsion design engineer and I'd like to continue my journey into the aerospace and defense industry. I enjoy playing hockey, fishing, golfing, reading and skiing. I'd like to thank Bill Kensi for selecting me for this prestigious award.

After completing her MBA at Georgetown University McDonough School of Business, Nicole joined JetBlue in 2007. She started her airline career in Revenue Management field and later joined the Product Development Onboard Experience team. It is her mission to bring humanity back to air travel by offering JetBlue customers the best onboard experience.

Parker Ragle

Parker Ragle was born and raised in the Plano, Texas area. He grew up playing basketball both for recreational teams and for his school, and he later became a youth basketball coach in order to give back to the basketball community. He has been working at Cinemark Theaters since he turned 16, and he was also involved significantly with his high school. On top of participating in various community service organizations, he was elected Senior Class President of the Plano West Class of 2015 which boasted over 1500 students, and he pushed himself to improve the school in every way he could. He will be attending Vanderbilt University at Nashville, Tennessee in the Fall.

Rodney Babcock

My name is Rodney Babcock I am a non-traditional student who decided to return to school in my forties.  Over the years I had witnessed several friends suffer from the grips of addiction problems or alcoholism. This inspired me to pursue a career in Human Services; my concentration is in Mental Health Counseling. Although my passion is to work with people afflicted with addiction issues, I recently found an interest in Domestic Violence Counseling. I volunteer time with an organization; New Beginnings which I helped file the proper paperwork making them a 501c3 non-profit organization.   My overall goal is to have my own counseling service or be partners of a counseling center serving people with a variety with mental health disorders.

Trevor Barton

My name is Trevor Barton, and I am a Supply Chain Management Major at TCU located in Fort Worth, Texas. This is the second year I have applied for a scholarship from the IFSA Foundation, and both years I was lucky enough to receive one. This year, 2015, I was awarded the John & Ginnie Long Scholarship. I have completed two internships my Junior and Senior summers at Fidelity Investments and TTI, Inc., respectively. I have also been lucky enough to take a study abroad trip and study global supply chain in China. I am continuously trying to broaden my knowledge of supply chain and business in general, and by receiving this scholarship I feel it is allowing me to do so.

My name is Zina Darwish, I'm a nineteen year old Jordanian living in Lebanon. I am about to start my second year at the American University of Beirut . I intend to major in political science with a minor in Media and Communication. I graduated from King's Academy, a coeducational boarding school in Jordan. I am passionate about politics, the empowerment of women in Jordan and beyond, learning new things, art, design, traveling, fashion, Turkish coffee, sunsets and the sea.
