IFSA has continued dialogue with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) regarding appropriate labeling of complimentary food onboard.
In a recent conversation between FDA staff and Jessica O’Connell, IFSA legal counsel Covington & Burling, and A4A counsel, FDA indicated that complimentary traditional restaurant style foods (i.e., those with coverings primarily for a sanitary purpose that could be removed by a flight attendant before serving) are not required to be labeled when leaving the catering facility.
We will continue to engage with FDA on the requirements for buy on board products and specifically how those requirements might apply to international flights.
