Greetings from IFSA,

The Annual Conference Planning Committee and I have been working hard to ensure this year's conference will provide timely and valuable information and plenty of opportunities to network and connect with key industry decision makers at airlines.

To take advantage of these opportunities I strongly encourage you to attend the 2013 APEX/IFSA EXPO to be held 9-11 September in Anaheim, California at the Anaheim Convention Center. For the past four years, IFSA has co-located wth the Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) for the Annual Conference. This year, IFSA is working with APEX more closely. Attendees will experience an integrated tradeshow, joint educational sessions and networking events.

Schedule of Events

Join IFSA on Sunday 8 September for the Welcome Reception, which is a great opportunity to meet EXPO attendees and speakers. 

On Monday 9 September, APEX and IFSA will team up to present a learning journey with speakers from various industries. The day kicks off with a keynote address from Dean Hallett, Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of Operations & Strategy of Fox Filmed Entertainment. Next, Bob Brooks, Vice President, Global Culture & Strategic Initiatives of Hilton Hotels & Resorts will review his experiences developing and coordinating strategy for global brands. Attendees will also hear from Dr. Mark Hiller, CEO of Recaro, who will explore how airlines can merge functionality with sleek designs and luxury. Lastly for the morning joint general sessions is Devin Liddell, Principal Brand Strategist of TEAGUE, who will detail the future of customer experiences for hotels and airlines. Immediately following the general session on Monday is the Hot Topics Roundtable Session, featuring tables focused on Controlling Buy on Board Waste, Quality Assurance Best Practices and the latest updates on food safety. IFSA members will receive important Association updates during the IFSA Annual Business Meeting, which will be held on Monday afternoon.

And on Monday evening, attendees are invited to participate in the IFSA Rock and Bowl Tournament, which will be held at 300 Anaheim. During this event, attendees will enjoy bowling, billiards and entertainment to provide support in the form of scholarships to college students and industry professionals seeking to advance their careers. Be sure not to miss the IFSA Foundation Presentation of the 2013 scholarship recipients. This year, the IFSA Foundation awarded over $40,000 in scholarships, due to the generous donations of its long-standing donors and many new supporters. You can register for the Rock and Bowl event along with your EXPO registration.

Slated for Tuesday is the 5th Annual IFSA Chef’s Competition, designed to test the skills of industry chefs in creativity, speed and ability. Make sure to grab a seat at the competition stage to watch the contestants compete for the most mouthwatering dishes prepared in 30 minutes. Connect with fellow EXPO attendees in a relaxed atmosphere on Tuesday evening at the IFSA Hospitality Suite, sponsored by McGuire & Associates.  

And on Wednesday evening, IFSA and APEX are teaming up to present the Social Networking Event, sponsored by Harvey Alpert & Company and The Coca-Cola Company, at Disney California Adventure Park. Fall down the Rabbit Hole and enter the world of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland at our rock’ Mad T Party. Dance to the sounds of the Mad T Band and the White Rabbit DJ, watch shows on the hottest deck in town and sharpen your gaming skills at the Madcade Arcade.

Submit your news for the EXPO Daily

Fresh off the press each morning and a must-read for all attendees, EXPO Daily features the latest breaking news arising each EXPO day. Each issue is published daily throughout the EXPO and delivers exclusive previews of the current day's schedule, photos and editorial coverage of the previous day's events. Coverage will include product/service announcements and new deals and partnerships from the exhibit floor. IFSA members may submit company news to be considered for inclusion in the EXPO Daily to or stop by Media Booth #1443. Look for your copy each morning at the entrance to the EXPO hall.

IFSA President provides information to USDA representatives

The June 2013 edition of Onboard IFSA provided the last update regarding the IFSA Government Affairs and Education Committee’s request for USDA to revise the “Manual for Agricultural Clearance.” This month, a letter was sent from IFSA President David Loft to USDA contacts. The letter noted the revisions were not considered to be business as usual and may create additional liability for both caterers and airlines. Additionally, the letter requested a meeting involving onboard services industry representatives and the USDA. Updates will be provided on this matter as they become available. IFSA 2013-2014 Board of Directors Nominations, Ballots Due Today  

IFSA is pleased to announce the names of the candidates selected by both the Active Nominating Committee and the Supplier Nominating Committee to run for election for the 2013 IFSA Board of Directors.

Primary and alternate contacts for each member company were notified of the election on July 22. Only the primary or alternate contact is entitled to one (1) electronic vote per open position in the 2013 election for Board of Director positions. For this election cycle, openings include two (2) three-year positions in the Active category and one (1) three-year position in the Supplier category. Voting is open untl 1700 Eastern Time on Friday, Aug. 30.
